a weekend in plymouth

shout out to my ceo who recognized how annoying it was that the 4th fell on a wednesday this year, so she gave us the option to take either the front or back half of the week off completely! i ended up taking monday through wednesday off and took a trip to plymouth ma to spend time with my mom and her best friend cindy.

the capecod flyer train leaves right out of south station and lands you in hyannis with a few stops down the shore along the way. i managed to spill my iced coffee all over my new white shirt and looked like i was going to camp with my stuffed-to-the-brim backpack, asics sneakers, tennis racket and camera slung over my torso. but i didn't care one bit because i was ready to spend the entire weekend on the beach! i got off in buzzard's bay after only an hour an a half. usually, it only takes about an hour to get there, but as always, there were signal problems so we were moving slower than normal. anyway, my mom was there waiting for me at 9:30am sharp to bring me to the blueberry muffin for breakfast.

i ordered an iced coffee (black), 2 eggs over easy with sourdough toast and a side of fresh fruit while my mom enjoyed a sweet potato hash and eggs plate. cindy actually works there and took such good care of us by bringing us 2 delicious blueberry muffins on the house! after we cleaned our plates, we drove back to cindy's condo which is right on the ocean.

the minute we got inside, i put on my new jcrew one piece, grabbed our chairs, and headed down to the beach. i had been craving the sand and ocean water ever since summer finally arrived in massachusetts. it felt amazing to get my toes in the sand and not have to worry about being back to work until thursday. we spent the whole day on the beach until our bellies were growling, so we went back to the condo, showered, and started cooking dinner. we roasted broccoli, steamed some corn on the cob, grilled baked potatoes, and cindy and my mom had steak tips. we caught up over our meal with glasses of red wine, and took advantage of the beautiful night by walking around the golf course, bumping into people along the way and stopping to chat about what a great start to the weekend it was.

on sunday, we decided to go see my mom's other good friend, laura, in onset which is only a ten minute drive from plymouth. i started my morning with a quick run, squats, and push-ups before packing up the car and heading out. once we got to onset, we met laura and her husband for a drink in town. she ordered us all a round of mai tai's which i was not a huge fan of - way too much sugar. but, it was great catching up with them and sipping on a cold drink in the hot sun. once we wrapped things up, we made our way to the docks to take their little motor boat over to onset island where their family house is. it was my first time out there and it was amazing! such a cool and relaxing spot.

once monday morning rolled around, it was time to head back to cambridge. my mom decided to drive me instead of having me take the train back! before leaving plymouth altogether, we stopped by the harbor to pop into some shops and walk around looking at the boats. our stomachs were growling so we grabbed a lobster roll, cup of clam chowder and fries to split while taking in the best view. of course i found a little candy store right by where we parked, so i had to stop in to snag a few treats. it was such a great weekend!!
